‘Where we embrace the glory and humour in the chaos. Un-staged and imperfectly beautiful.’
You guys. I have some random thoughts, feelings and questions today, this carnival-esque feeling start to the week. My head is spinning with work deadlines, home-related to-do lists and piles of laundry. Not complaining – all normal stuff. Today began with straight up tom foolery. The kind wherein you just have to laugh, lest you let the foulness of it all consume the brain. Kind of like when a toddler looks like they are going to eat your face as they lay their demon eyes upon you when waking up too early for a nap…
Which happens when you are road-tripping, something we did a lot of this weekend. As it were, all totally worth it. Else we wouldn’t have done it. Birthday parties for babies and visiting/supporting good friends with small ones during these milestones, are very important and blessed things. Even if they do turn into those demon eyed toddlers who will sucker punch you in the eye with a crayola chalk crayon. (And then head but you in the exact same spot mere moments later. True story.)
See this kid right here? (More a kid and less a toddler every-day.) Why is it that he will voluntarily go into his car-seat when we’re not going anywhere by car, and kick up a fuss at getting out.? When we need him to get strapped in for a car-ride, it’s nothing less of a heroic, back-breaking effort to get him contained. Especially his sister. Why is that exactly?
As for this beautiful girl, see that bright red rashy ring around her chin and lips? Poor thing seems to have developed a sensitivity to eating messy fruits. A contact thing. Off to the pediatrician we go. Ever try to keep fruit eating to a minimum with a toddler? Yea, good luck with that. This face is only the beginning. Have any of you experienced this? What was it? Did it go away?
Unrelated, but of the same inquisitive nature…do you guys shop with your kids? Or do you avoid it all costs like the plague? Yea, us suckers over here participate in that shit like it’s a contact sport or something. I know it can’t just be us. Our toddlers are fairly well behaved, but they have their moments. They are TODDLERS. Can’t change that, nor would I want to. Except maybe for those times when they are wreaking havoc down aisles because trying to contain them (even when it’s a bright orange wheely bus cart that they can drive is considered some sort of evil jail), is a very loud, sinister type of joke.
Psh. Try picking out deck furniture with toddlers when you and your partner/husband/whatever/I hate labels – have a hard enough time agreeing on aesthetic, style and colours in home decor as it is. On a good day. Minus wily toddlers. Suffice to say, we didn’t come home with anything but an outdoor area rug for the deck that may just be the end of us all because it is apparently so hurtful to the eyes of a man. So. Don’t let the cute of this picture fool you. Not for one stinkin’ minute.
I’m finally over the sinus infection to end all sinus infections from HELL that had me all caught up for most of last week. So of course our house is in some rather turbulent disarray. I best get back to this…
And this…
But I’d really rather hear all about what drives you absolutely batty. Tell me about the things you’d give up chocolate to do alone rather than with your kids. Fess up, guilt-free. We got this.

Target trips! I love going to Target but going with my children slows down my pace Granted I spend even longer there when I am alone because I can actually shop without saying no you can’t have that, and please don’t touch, it’s ok Lola we’re almost done, but it is something so wonderful about walking the aisles of Target solo. It’s been awhile since that has happened. It’s nice having them with me but it would also be nice not having to worry about anything other than what kind of goodies are in the dollar section!
Glad you’re feeling better!
Oh man. We JUST got Target here in Canada. Can you FEEL my excitement?!?!
